Wolfgang Puck Examines The Examiner

By JULIETTE ROSSANT According to yesterday's San Francisco Chronicle: In a move that gives a whole new meaning to the word "scoop," the new owners of the San Francisco Examiner will soon be moving to a new Mission Street address, and -- get this -- opening an "Examiner" restaurant where they plan to serve up haute cuisine. Rumor is they've even been talking to chef luminaries, including Wolfgang Puck. "It's a great brand-extension idea," said publisher P. Scott McKibben. Brand extension? Perhaps Puck can open up one of his new Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill's since he already has a Postrio there, but for the San Francisco Examiner, all I see is a conflict of interest between the paper's restaurant reviewer and the "Examiner" restaurant under discussion.
