From Boulud's gourmet hamburgers arise... delicate Philly cheesesteaks?
By JULIETTE ROSSANT For the new millennium, Daniel Boulud made famous a gourmet "DB Hamburger" at his DB Bistro Moderne, to the tune of $27, less tax. Now, reports Michael Klein in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Todd Mark Miller, executive chef of the newly opened Barclay Prime, has created a gourmet Philly cheesesteak, which was to debut on David Letterman last night but got bumped. Miller's cheesesteak is reported to contain foie gras (already under siege in California -- see previous entry "Super Chef vs. Governator: Todd English Fights For Foie Gras Rights"), Kobe beef, truffle butter, caramelized onions, julienned heirloom tomatoes, and Taleggio cheese. Price tag? $100, less tax.For that price, I'd rather deconstruct the whole thing, chez Daniel -- or chez Mark, for that matter. |
