Mimi Sheraton: Contented Critic of Comestibles

By JULIETTE ROSSANT

Mimi SheratonMimi Sheraton has a new book out, Eating My Words: An Appetite for Life, that is receiving lots of media attention.

The Boston Globe's Alison Arnett wrote, "Her critical eye, honed for years as the restaurant critic for The New York Times, New York magazine, and several national publications, falls squarely on food."

For USA Today, Mimi answered questions live online. When asked about her formative food experiences, she recounted three: her first fresh fig (Italy), first whole black truffle roasted in ashes (Paris), and first moolookhia (Cairo).

It's a tough life, she related in an earlier USA Today article: it took the former New York Times food critic three years to lose 50 pounds she gained on the job.
