Tsunami Update 7: Dining to Donate in Washington DC

Michel RichardThe Washington Post recently published a list of Washington, DC, restaurants donating proceeds to 2004 Tsunami relief as follows:
  • Bangkok Joe's, 3000 K Street NW, tel (202) 333-4422. During January 2005, this Georgetown-based restaurant is serving a three-course special costing $20.05 for lunch and $30.05 for dinner, of which $5 from each order goes to the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington's tsunami-relief fund. Offerings include coriander-crusted duck; grilled Asian pear, spinach and wonton noodles; and lavender ice cream with Grand Marnier-marinated berries.

  • Brickskeller, 1523 22nd Street NW, (202) 293-1885. Ten percent of January 2005 draft sales goes to the International Red Cross's tsunami effort

  • R.F.D., 810 Seventh Street NW, (202) 289-2030). 10 percent of January's happy hour draft sales also go to the Red Cross.

  • Cafe Marianna, 1201 N. Royal Street, Alexandria. (703) 519-3776. The Cajun-influenced restaurant is donating 20% of January's sales to UNICEF.

  • Kaz Sushi Bistro, 1915 I Street NW, (202) 530-5500. At the end of January, this Foggy Bottom-based sushi spot will draw a tasting-dinner-for-two raffle, with tickets at $10 and all proceeds going to UNICEF.

  • Martin's Tavern, 1264 Wisconsin Avenue NW, (202) 333-7370. 100% of the $25 for a special Chicken Pad Tao with fresh ginger and black bean glaze were donated to the B'nai B'rith Disaster Relief Fund until January 20.

  • Mimi's, 2120 P Street NW, (202) 464-6464. On February 4, 2005, 11:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m., this Dupont bistro's singing staff will hosting a midnight cabaret, with a $10 for admission and one drink that goes to CARE USA.

  • Palette, 1177 15th Street NW, (202) 587-2700. Through January 2005, 50% of a $10 signature martini (Grey Goose L'Orange Vodka, Chambord, and pineapple juice) with proceeds to the Red Cross.
In addition, Mark Furstenberg, owner Bread Line (1751 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) has enlisted chefs from Washington-area restaurants including Citronelle, Galileo, 1789 Restaurant, Restaurant Eve, Equinox, and the Majestic Cafe for a fundraiser on February 3: each chef will bring a dish. Tickets are $100 ticket, for Sri Lankan relief.
