Julia Child Helped Create the "Author Tour"
By JULIETTE ROSSANT At the publishing of the second volume of her Mastering the Art of French Cooking, the late Julia Child was the first ever author to be served up on an "author tour" by its inventor, Jane Friedman, president and chief executive of HarperCollins. It happened 35 years ago, back in 1970,when Ms. Friedman, then a publicist at Alfred A. Knopf, had to schedule Julia Child on morning television shows for her book.
