Rachael Ray Every Day from Readers Digest
By JULIETTE ROSSANT Listen up, food writers! Rachael Ray and Reader’s Digest are launching a new magazine on August 30, 2005: Every Day With Rachael Ray. A rag for the times, its name even rhymes. Spunky Rachael will somehow make room in her life (which includes three shows on the Food Network to be editor-in-chief.The new magazine does have an impressive line-up on its editorial board: Kitty Morgan, formerly of Departures and Editor-in-Chief of Cincinnati Magazine, will serve as Editor; Lucy Sisman, who created the acclaimed designs of Allure and Details magazines, will be Design Director; and Silvana Nardone, a former editor at Saveur magazine and the founder of Fanciulla Specialty Foods, will join as Executive Food Editor. (Click here to read a New York Times article from earlier this week, or here for a market-oriented article by Mediaweek.) (Click here to read the full press release from Reader's Digest.) This just leaves me thinking: is the rise in the last 30 years of American Cuisine, Food Television and Celebrity Chefs all about fast-and-easy cuisine? (Hmm, good term: if no one else has already claimed it, I claim to have coined the term FEC or "Fast, Easy Cuisine.") Is the vast experience of great restaurants, especially in the Fine Dining sector, in America translating into better homecooking -- or simply lots and lots of snappy shortcuts?
