Smithsonian Folklife Festival: Food Culture USA
By JULIETTE ROSSANT![]() If you're going to Washington, DC, any time soon to see Julia Child's Kitchen at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, you may arrive during this year's Folklife Festival, weeks of June 23-27 and June 30-July 4 for "Food Culture USA." It will include demonstrations by celebrity chefs, such as Paul Prudhomme and Mario Batali, along with local chefs such as Todd Gray -- and at least three super chefs (by my definition): Washington-based Jose Andres, Food Network star Emeril Lagasse, and Super Chef subject Charlie Palmer. ![]() Featured will be Alice Waters, who will re-create her "Edible Schoolyard." The 2005 festival has three other themes, each with its own events: the arts, the culture, and history of the Sultanate of Oman; the history and traditions of the U.S. Forest Service, and the "Nuestra Musica," showcasing Latino music traditions. ![]() (One of my favorite groups, Rumisonko, will be performing there, as well as at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage -- free performances on Tuesday, June 28, 6:00-7:00 p.m..)
