2012 Olympics: Too Many Food Jokes

By JULIETTE ROSSANT

Britons celebrate award of 2012 Olympics to UKYou may have heard the breaking news -- not that New York is out of the race (we knew that a while back) but that the Olympic Committee has chosen London as the host site for the 2012 Olympics (Summer). However, did you get the inside scoop on the jokes about British cuisine that France's president Jacques Chirac mixed into the French case?

Recently in Kalingrad, Chirac told pals Vladimir Putin of Russia and Gerhardt Schroeder of Germany, "The only thing they have done for European agriculture is mad cow" and that the only place with worse food than England is Finland. "We can't trust people who have such bad food."

"You can't trust people who cook as badly as that" is not something new to the ear -- except as a quip between world leaders. As The Hindustan Times' London correspondent mused, "That made me wonder what dishes would be served to him during his stay at Gleneagles for G8 summit..." It gets worse: the British tabloids have responded with the following WWII joke:
Q: What did the mayor of Paris say to the German army as they entered the city?

A: Table for 100,000 M'sieur?"
It seems that M. Chirac told one joke too many... and those "tasteless" Brits are having the last laugh.
