Clarissa Dickson Wright, the surviving lady of Two Fat Ladies, is backing Jamie Oliver's decision to slaughter a sheep on his television show (see previous article), according to The Melbourne Herald Sun: If I had my way it would have been shown at 6:00 p.m., when as many children as possible would have been watching. For once, I think Jamie is right to remind us of one of the most basic fundamentals of life: if we want to eat meat, an animal has to die. It is up to us, as a humane but meat-eating society, to ensure that the animal has a well-cared-for life and then meets as quick and painless an end as possible. Superchefblog makes two assumptions here: - We assume that Ms. Dickson Wright feels it is also up us to ensure that animal are well-prepared for meals.
- We also assume that when Ms. Dickson Wright says "children" that she means older children and not wee kiddies nor tiny tots.
While others quibble, Jamie moves -- with the launch of a new kitchen gadget, a drug treatment course for his cooks, and a new ad campaign for Sainsbury (see The Telegraph, The Guardian, and Bloomberg -- click here to see ads).
