Bono's RED: Giorgio Armani's Celebrity

By JULIETTE ROSSANT

Bono's Red version of the UK's Independent newspaper

RED logo Today, U2 front man Bono is guest editor of British newspaper The Independent, hence the RED theme in today's special edition. One would think that Food would be an important topic for the Third World-concerned singer-songwriter, but there is only one article about EU aid to African farmers.

The Global Fund logo Still, RED's support for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria is particularly noteworthy and praiseworthy (see press release from January this year).

And, there is also an interview -- written by Sir Paul McCartney's fashion designer-daughter Stella McCartney -- with fashion designer and restaurateur Giorgio Armani (note: Emporio Armani is a RED partner, and Mr. Armani is a UNHCR ambassador). A main topic is celebrity -- and Food gets honorable mentions. Like James Beard and his taste memory, Mr. Armani recalls his earliest fashion memory, the moment he "knew" he wanted to be a fashion designer, the source of his inspiration -- all good reading material for chefs.
