Casino Royale: James Bond's Bollinger
By JULIETTE ROSSANT ![]() Back in 1973, the first Bollinger champagne debuted in a Jamess Bond: Live and Let Die. There have been some forgettable lines along the years, such as this one from A View to a Kill (1985): "Bollinger '75! I see you are a connoisseur, Mr Bond."Earlier Bond films with Roger Moore pushed "Bollinger RD" (Recently Disgorged), an aged "La Grande Annee" champagne for up to 25 years in the cellars which then has its sediment removed. Come Pierce Brosnan in Goldeneye (1995), and the brew changed to La Grande Annee itself. ![]() Now, Bollinger (La Grand Armee) is back with Bond in Casino Royale with the debut of new Bond actor Daniel Craig. Maybe you'd better see the movie first, though: Bollinger La Grande Annee currently runs over $200 a bottle and the rose version over $350. Bond and Bollinger:

As Dr. Michael Lim The Travelling Gourmet I travel the world in a relentless pursuit of good wines and gourmet food. I just wanted to mention that the champagne featured in Pierce Brosnan's first Bond movie, namely Goldeneye in 1995 was Bollinger Grande Annee 1988. In the latest movie with Daniel Craig, he fails to mention the vintage and only says, "Bollinger Grande Annee" to the Room Service waiter. Somewhat incomplete, don't you think? Mind you, this latest Bond is rather rough round the edges which is really not in keeping with Ian Fleming's alter ego. I prefer my Vodka Martini with Stolichnaya, shaken, not stirred.... {:-)
