Women Chef Bosses

By JULIETTE ROSSANT

Alison Arnett of the Boston Globe has written an excellent article on women chefs. In "She's the Boss" she points out that Boston has a larger percentage of women chefs than New York:
Some things about Boston -- its size, less competition, and slightly cheaper cost of living -- make it a somewhat gentler and more accessible restaurant climate. It's also a city where women, some encouraged by the late Julia Child, have prospered in the business, compared to New York, dominated in early years by Frenchmen. Those successes in Boston have encouraged more women to aim high.
What's Alison talking about? No, no, no: whom is she talking about! Check out her list of working girls:

Working Girl The news about women chefs is good, but too few have broken into the ranks of super chefs. A few years ago, it was extremely difficult to find women chefs who met the criteria for being super chefs (see definition) for inclusion into Super Chef. There are only three women chefs on superchefblog's official list. None of the chefs in the Boston Globe article are super chefs, though a few are running or have run more than one restaurant (in the Boston area) and many are local celebrities.
