Rachael Ray Greases Dunkin' Donuts

By JULIETTE ROSSANT

Dunkin'Donuts a la Rach

The invasion continues: first there was Nabisco Products, with Rachael Ray's (RR) mug firmly on Triscuit's box.

Now comes Dunkin Donuts (DD). RR has signed a multi-year deal to perk up DD's coffee and fatty sweets. She'll be a "brand representative" according to the March 8th press release, which includes "multi-platform marketing campaign for Dunkin' Donuts. Ray will also lend her perspective to the Dunkin' Donuts culinary team in the development of new, "better for you" food and beverage options." Rachael will appear in Dunkin' Donut ads starting next month.

DD is working on reducing trans-fats, which RR is evidently very enthusiastic about.

What is her perspective?

She has a well-publicized weight problem (see numerous blogs about her weight), and mentions low carbs (last years' buzz word for dieters) in many of her TV shows.

How is she going to find the time to add yet another hat to her already busy schedule?

More coffee. But if DD goal is to rival Starbucks as a coffee purveyor, how is RR's P&C (Peppy & Cheap) persona going to encourage anyone to buy fancy coffee?

Now, a real chef who had sold out and slid all the way down the slippery road to Dunkin'Donuts hell would have at least had the decency (or disdain) to come up with a new donut!

Where, o where, is the "Rachael Ray Morning Rush"?

How about a donut cooked in EVOO - perhaps savory?

Or the "Yummo Donut" with little yellow sugar sprinkles (soon to be patented as "Rachael Ray Drops of Sunshine")?

You know what beats slaving over a stove for 30-Minute Meals? Grabbing donuts fresh out of the box and wolfing half a dozen down in under 30 seconds!

Maybe Rach should consider another endorsement: Alka-Seltzer.

Good Heavens

In the northeast part of the US, it seems that many DD stores are owned and operated by newly arrived Brazilians.....RR if you have any sense at all you should ask them what they would prefer to process and peddle to us eager eaters in America.

(I like the little drops of sunshine line, but don't your people have already TM'd that for a line of OTC heartburn remedy with cheery smiling faces on the.)

while it is way to easy to make fun, and far to unchallanging to take pot shots, one serious foodie to all others must ask the question....what is she (are you) thinking?
more importantly...what is DD thinking

why don't they engage brazilian giselle bundschen(sp) to talk about do-nuts. what, you don't think and uberskinny supermodel has the right rap for shilling fatty foods? DD think again.
it would be a better fit than the RR machine. at least GB has a certain chic that shall forever elude the now officially commercially whoreish RR. shame on all involved. RR, Darling, listen up.....be part of the solution not a part of the problem. you have a platform for real change(god only knows how) use it for good not evil. NO amount of philanthropy in the future will make up for your illness enhancing lifestyle promotion activities of the cash hungry moment.

i might actually believe that GB eats a do-nut or malasada once in a while, and at least is stylish doing while doing it.

of course this begs the question....what next?
tune in to see, and hold on to your scruples.
