Gordon Ramsay: Find Me a Fanny
By JULIETTE ROSSANT ![]() It seems Gordon Ramsay is going to give the fairer sex another go. Gordo drummed up plenty of fuss and publicity a year and a half ago by declaring that British women "can't cook to save their lives" (see previous article). Since then he has opened Gordon Ramsay at the London in New York to less than stellar reviews. New York isn't as well known for women chefs (with some notable exceptions like Lidia Bastianich, Anita Lo and Patricia Yeo), unlike Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles, but making friends can't hurt. There are also press reports that Gordon's autobiography, Humble Pie (Harper Collins), might be turned into a Hollywood movie. Maybe he wants to soften his image so that the other half of the population will buy tickets?Whatever the reason, Gordon's new campaign is called Find Me a Fanny. Fanny isn't what you think, although double entendre is certainly at play here. Fanny refers to Fanny Cradock, the eccentric and influential British writer, restaurant critic and TV cook who died in 1994. Gordon was quoted in the The Sun as saying he was "genuinely fed up with the glut of alpha male chefs crowding the screen and battling for supremacy". Does he wants alpha females to join them? The contest is open to the British public to enter The competition is open to both amateur and professional female cooks and the winner will not only be crowned Ramsay's Fanny, but will also have her own segment on his UK TV show Gordon Ramsay's F Word. For details on how to enter, go to Find Me a Fanny website. Previous articles: Marco Pierre White: The Devil in the Kitchen FOOD FLICKS: Gordon Ramsay the Sailor Gordon Ramsay v.
