FOOD FLICKS: World Ocean Day: Charlie the Tuna
| By JULIETTE ROSSANT Once upon a time, when the world was so new and all, humans roamed the world's oceans, hunting freely... A few years later (1961), Yiddish theater star Herschel Bernardi gave voice to one of the most memorable advertising cartoon characters of all time, Starkist's Charlie the Tuna. (Among Bernardi's other work was a role in Woody Allen's The Front (1976) about Hollywood blacklisting -- well, at least he fought for one good issue.)So, to celebrate World Ocean Day today (see previous article), take a moment to remember how attitudes change... ... to remember the call of yesterday ("Sorry, Charlie!")... ... and to think upon a future where only "RoboTuna" swims the high seas... ... (Sadly, Charlie's real-life creator drowned in 2005 -- really! -- but that's another story...) Charlie the Tuna Run time: 1 minutes 00 seconds Stay tuned for more "Food Flicks" each Friday!
