Halloween Challenge: Roald Dahl

By JULIETTE ROSSANT

The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me, by Roald Dahl American kids will gobble up mounds of candy tonight after trick-or-treating. It is tough to wean them away, but one way is to read them a book full of imaginary candy that is so enticing, they won't want to eat any of the ordinary stuff.

Pick up a story by Roald Dahl.

Just think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or better yet, The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me. In it, the young (human) hero saves the day and as a reward gets his dream come true: he reopens The Grubber as the best candy store ever.
...I unpacked each new batch and sampled it carefully. I can remember especially the Giant Wangdoodles from Australia, every one with a huge ripe red strawberry hidden inside its crispy chocolate crust...and the Electric Fizzcocklers that made every hair on your head stand straight up on end as soon as you popped one into your mouth... (pp. 70-71)
Can you come up with a recipe for Gumtwizzlers or Fizzwinkles? How about Frothblowers and Spitsizzlers?

And where o where are the chefs to make real these terrific imaginary treats -- or better?
