The Next Iron Chef: Bets?
By JULIETTE ROSSANT [Editor: To read about the winner, click here.]![]() Super Chef likes a good bet. Reality competition shows are all about guessing who is going to win. Who is going to be the winner of The Next Iron Chef? Whoever wins it may replace Mario Batali. Why would any of the eight chefs want to? Because winning increases media coverage, customers, and offers of product lines, books, media deals that come with being on a top Food Network Show. Super Chef was surprised that Traci Des Jardins lost the first round. After all, she had the most experience of the two women chefs among the eight contestants, and Super Chef was rooting for another woman Iron Chef to compete with the men. Now, our bet is on John Besh. ![]() Why John? He is a great chef, he is American, he is easy on the eye, and he has the best story. His restaurants are in and around New Orleans, a city devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane badly damaged the city's important restaurant industry. John and his restaurants are part of the rebuilding effort in New Orleans - he not only reopened his own restaurants but helped others. John won the Beard Award for Best Chef of the Southeast in 2006. He also defeated Chef Mario Batali on Iron Chef America. He has recently gone from two restaurants to four. Sure, he has more to supervise, but he also has more at stake. He needs to fill those restaurants. Ask any Food Network chef: a hot TV show will fill them. Lastly, he won the first round. If he can make a catfish dessert that can wow the chefs, then he may very well deserve to win. Whom are you betting on? I'm expecting John Besh and Michael Symon will be the final two, but I am betting on Symon.
He does some interesting things at his restaurants.
John has the personality and quick wit. I really hope he'll win
I've followed the series and I'm rooting for Chef Symon...Chef Besh is a great chef but I think it would be kind of odd that two Iron Chefs would be showcasing Southern flavors to their arsenal...
I had a feeling Besh and Symon would be the final 2. As for my pick, I am rooting for and backing Besh. Besh is the most complimentary to the sytle of the current Iron Chefs. As much as I think Symon would be great (tell me you wouldn't be scared to look him in the eye before a battle... I would!), his style and cuisine is too close to Mario and Cat's. Both of them are described as "Mediterranian" at some level, and so is Symon. Besh is Cajun/Creole, something that is not represented currently. Yes, both Flay and Besh are French trained, but they come from different backgrounds and have totally unique styles, both of which represent America well. I was hoping Morou could come through (I would LOVE a new continent represented).
I used to work with Besh. Now I wish I worked for Symon.
on the wikipedia site it already says Chef Besh was eliminated... I am hoping that they didnt actually give away the ending. I am sick of leaks ruining things.
