Foie Gras War: Salt Lake City?

The latest restaurant hit by protests and vandalism is Metropolitan, one of Salt Lake City, Utah's finest restaurants. The Deseret News reports that the FBI is investigating vandalism at the hotel after red paint has been thrown at the building, a gas main was damaged and a server was also punched in the face during a confrontation on New Year's Eve. The Metropolitan has taken foie gras off its menu. ![]() Why Utah? The Sundance Film Festival started January 17th with a gala in Salt Lake City. The Deseret News quotes Jeremy Beckham, a participant in the protests who mentioning the American Liberation Front: No one has claimed responsibility for the vandalism, but an Animal Liberation Front primer distributed on the Internet promotes window smashings as a basic way of getting a store's attention about animal abuse. Some groups such as the ALF have been classified by the FBI as "domestic terrorist organizations." ![]() Restaurants are virtually powerless by themselves to withstand the threat of both protests and violence. Super Chef reported recently about vandalism in Maryland restaurants near Washington, DC, and Chicago. What will it take to put an end to this dangerous trend of vigilante vandalism?
