Disney Cooks with Cat Cora

By JULIETTE ROSSANT

Disney's 'What's Cooking with Cat Cora?'

Disney Theme Parks are all about getting away from everyday life and experiencing holiday fun, extravagant rides, costumed characters, and entertainment. How does cooking fit in? Food is suppose to be on the same level of imagination – that is, bringing the visitor all sorts of extravagant, extraordinary tastes, that don't make them sick on roller coaster rides, right? It certainly isn't about cooking, that hum drum chore left at home on a holiday to a theme park.

It looks like Disney is trying to change all that with Cat Cora's new show.

Cat's show isn't on the Food Network. It is on the Disney Travel on Demand on Cablevision and Time Warner Cable systems across the country. What's Cooking with Cat Cora is a series of short vignettes of 8-9 minutes in which Cat picks a family visiting one of the parks and show them how to cook something in a Disney restaurant. She is spunky and enthusiastic, aiming to get the kids involved as much as the adults.

Mickey Mouse and Cat Cora

What's Cooking with Cat Cora along with two other programs were rolled out the week of March 9. Click here for a preview. Cat is quoted in the press release:
Disney is not only a thrilling vacation destination, but a mecca for fine dining. The audience for Disney Travel on Demand provided the perfect venue to not only inform families of the culinary thrills in the park, but to offer recipes that easily incorporate into the daily meal plan.
Do families really go to a Disney Park in order to learn what to serve for dinner on a school night? Is a show about Disney food going to make you want to go to a Disney Park?

I dont understand, what is so hard to get, you are thinking in a tunnel, Disney is not just about rides, it has amazing restaurants and what better to showcase these restaurants with families, some with kids and some without about the great culinary dishes they can experience. I think it is ingenius and marketing at its finest. Disney understands you have to keep the attention, show the parks, show the restaurants, show families, in a creative unique way. Step out of the kitchen box.

or perchance has the cat herself been prowling cyberspace?
