Michael Symon Adds Dinner: Impossible and Roast

By JULIETTE ROSSANT

Michael Symon Looks like Michael Symon won't be spending much time in Cleveland at his Lola and Lolita restaurants.

News is that he is replacing the disgraced Robert Irvine as the host of the Food Network's Dinner: Impossible, which is being stretched to one hour. It is scheduled to go on air this summer after Michael tapes 10 new episodes.

Next news is that Michael is also opening up a fine dining restaurant in Detroit's Westin Book Cadillac that is tentatively called Roast. According to The Detroit Free Press, it will feature. "two huge rotisseries and two huge wood-burning grills" where chefs will roast whole suckling pigs, baby goats and spring lambs, and cook wood-fired steaks and other items.

Finally, Michael joined Iron Chef America last fall and tapes shows along with the other Iron Chefs: Cat Cora, Bobby Flay, Masaharu Morimoto, and/or Mario Batali.

Why the rush to do two shows on FN? Isn't exposure on Iron Chef enough – leaving him time to run his restaurants, train staff, and attend events? Won't two shows be too much of a stretch? Is it a case of grab that minute in celebrity while you can because it isn't going to last? Or, is he following Emeril Lagasse's model: looking for the perfect TV show fit while he builds an empire of restaurants, product lines, and endorsements? Let's hope for his Cleveland fans' sake that he has strong lieutenants in charge.
