FOOD FLICKS: Rachael Ray: No Terrorist - No Chef!
By JULIETTE ROSSANT![]() Once upon a time, Rachael Ray became a famed hottie in part for how little she wore in a pin-up and how she dished it out. ![]() These days, it's not how little she wears but what she wears. Specifically, she sported a scarf for a Dunkin' Donuts ad recently that looks much like a kaffiyeh, originally a part of desert dress worn by bedouin and then urban Arabs (and Kurds) -- and various chic students around the world since the late 1970s and early 1980s. ![]() Enter some low-brow (we're talking Neanderthal-level) bloggers, who use McCarthy-style tactics (fear and ignorance) to assassinate people's characters in public -- like Charles Johnson and Michelle Malkin. Malkin proceeds, out of the goodness of her Grinch-sized heart, to compare the Rach's scarf to a Ku Klux Klan hood while in the same breath claiming it is the dress of choice for Muslim terrorists. ![]() Sorry, Rach ain't no terrorist-supporter, and neither is Dunkin Donuts. They were probably just as ignorant as dear Michelle Malkin when it came to any true resemblance between her Urban Outfitters-sourced "keffiyeh" and the real thing. ![]() So, what have we learned so far?
![]() The only evil thing going on with Rach and Dunkin Donuts is the fact that she advertises for them in the first place, as Media slut Anthony Bourdain has been happy to note for The New York Post and People Magazines (low-brow publications, too, yet enlightened enough in this case). With all this in mind, enjoy today's Food Flick!
