Timothy Hollingsworth Wins Bocuse D'Or USA
By JULIETTE ROSSANT![]() Savvy chef watchers may not be paying attention to the latest breaking news that there's been yet another break-through in the Congressional bail out plan, but they will be noting that Timothy Hollingsworth has been chosen to represent the US in the Bocuse d'Or World Cuisine Contest that takes place in Lyons, France in January 2009 (See previous Super Chef article Chef Olympics: Bocuse D'Or 2009. Super Chef congratulates Timothy of The French Laundry on beating seven other semi-finalists in the two-day event at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. WNBC's Al Roker and Chef John Besh hosted the competition, open to the public. Teams of chef and commis prepared elaborate fish and meat platters for a panel of judges including Michel Bouit, Harmut Handke, Daniel Humm, Traci des Jardin, Gavin Kaysen, David Myers, Patrick O'Connell, Georges Perrier, Alain Sailhac, Andre Soltner, Laurent Tourondel and Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Winners were announced by Food & Wine editor-in-chief, Dana Cowin, at a ceremony emceed by Susan Ungaro, President of the James Beard Foundation. The French Laundry's Thomas Keller is also president of the US committee, chaired by Daniel Boulud. As the winner, Timothy gets to spend the next three months on a paid sabbatical to train under Coach Roland Henin and live and work in a specially constructed training center located beside The French Laundry in Yountville, California. Hollingsworth also receives a $15,000 cash prize, a 12-day cruise courtesy of Crystal Cruises and a timepiece courtesy of Jaeger-Le Coultre. His commis, Adina Guest, also of The French Laundry won Best Commis with her prize including three one-week stages with Rougie Foie Gras, Regis Marcon and competition founder Paul Bocuse. Chef Richard Rosendale of Rosendales in Columbus, Ohio was awarded the Silver Medal and a $10,000 cash award and also won Best Technique with Sous Vide. Super Chef will be keeping an eye out for news of Bocuse D'Or and Timothy's competition. Best of Luck!
